Michelle Huizinga is a multi-media sculptor based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. NZ
Michelle finds beauty in delapidation and decay- the rich ambers of rust, the texture of flaking paint and the patterns created by Mother Nature. Guided by her love of the outdoors, forgotten structures and her Dutch heritage Michelle’s works generally start with a spark created while out exploring.
These concepts are often moulded into sculptural forms with clay as her primary medium. Her vessels hold a thoughtful blend of nurture and nature, which she then intricately weaves into.
Michelle's works encompass earthy hues and textures, with injections of carefully considered colour. Her passion for combining textiles with ceramics has defined her unique vessels, evoking intuitive shapes that form naturally with the result often surprising herself as much as others.
